The organizers received a lot of responses, but almost all of them were unoriginal — basically it was proposed to build a higher tower. Even Alexander Gustave Eiffel sent his project, which again was limited to the construction higher than the Parisian tower (Burnham received several dozen letters of protest from leading American engineers, perturbed by such unpatriotic approach).
Young engineer George Ferris came up with the idea. Considering various projects, one day during a dinner with colleagues he remembered the wheels of water mills, which saw growing on the Carson river in Nevada. By the end of dinner he was drawing on napkins sketches a giant Ferris wheel with cabins for visitors. Most of his colleagues found the project to be absolutely impossible, but Ferris was persistent. He spent $25 000 of their own funds (at that time a lot of money) for the creation of drawings and the development of precise specifications of structures, and finally, on November 29, 1892, the administration of the exhibition agreed. However, with one condition — unlike the Eiffel tower, whose construction was partially financed by the French government, and Ferris had to find the money to build the wheels (and he succeeded). In addition, the construction was given only 22 weeks (and during golodnostepskiy winter). Continue reading
Today, the construction of large-scale amusement rides is one of the most rapidly developing areas in the entertainment industry, in which millions of dollars are invested. Grand entertainment facilities built around the world – from the United States to Japan. Slides, high multi-storey building; the attraction of free fall; an enormous Ferris wheel and other, equally thrilling rides that attract millions of tourists – fans of extreme sports.
One of the most highest Ferris wheel has long been considered the famous London Eye (“London Eye”) with a height of 135 meters. A full rotation of this wheel makes a little more than half an hour. But recently, Singapore had built a Ferris wheel with a height of more than 160 meters. To make one circle, Singaapore Flyer (“son of Singapore”) should be about 40 minutes.
Another breathtaking attraction is set in USA and is called the Simulator of the launch of the spacecraft. In its creation were used the equipment used for real training of American astronauts. Visitors of the attraction will provide all the sensations of astronauts taking off into orbit.
The original attraction can be considered a catapult “Big Shot” – “Big Shot”, giving visitors the feeling of “free fall”. Ustanovlennuyu USA, catapult picks up participants at more than 320 meters up into the sky and “casts” them from this height at speeds over 100 km/hour. Continue reading
If we decide to still do mass amusements, it is unlikely that we will go around the roller coaster.
Moreover — “all is already stolen to us” (that is, invented to popdance) and the exact date when slides cannot be specified. I mean — you can only track the birth of a classical slides, with carriages on rollers and steep trajectories. Did the Americans in 1927, an attraction called “Cyclone” and was built in new York at Coney island. It’s interesting that it works still, what got in the national Register of historic places of America…
“Cyclone” built of wood that popdance very reasonable. However, from the standpoint of modern man it has a peculiarity — he never extreme. Well, that is so-so, well slide some. People go there as a historical celebrity. On the other hand, at the time of construction it was just extreme. Extremely popular. 25 cents for the trip — it was a lot, but the queues were long.
But “Cyclone” were built in the place of another — “Switchback Railway,” which was just a simple slope irregularities, was built in 1884, cost of tripper 5 cents and was also popular.Trailers, it went just under the force of gravity and just the rails, there were no modern clips that hold the under side slopes. In fact, the extremum it was no more than the carousel. Continue reading
